As New year's Eve approaches, Glendale fire authorities remind residents the use of fireworks within city limits is prohibited.
On April 24, 2012, the Glendale City Council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance prohibiting the use of consumer fireworks within the city limits.
The ban went into effect May 25, 2012.
Since 2010, state law has allowed the sale of consumer fireworks but many cities have chosen to ban fireworks completely or partially within city limits.
The complete ban also aligned Glendale with their neighboring cities' fireworks ordinances.
The penalty for setting off fireworks within city limits is a Class 3 misdemeanor, with a minimum fine of $275.
A person may also be held financially responsible for all costs associated with the emergency response in the event that police and/or fire are dispatched.
