A Midstate family had a close call Monday night after a car nearly crashed into their home.
Neighbors saw a car speed down Oriel Avenue when it left the road, crashed into a power pole and careened into the home's front steps.
The pole snapped and landed in the family's yard, just feet away from their home.
The driver allegedly tried to speed off after the wreck, but a neighbor kept him from leaving the scene.
"I walked up. He opened the door. I took the keys out of the ignition. I asked him to sit down and wait for police," said Ryan McMurray, who witnessed the crash. "He reeked of alcohol. You could tell he was not in the right frame of mind to be driving."
It is not known yet if the driver was charged.
Officials said some of the homes in the area may lose power while repairs are being made to the pole.
