Authorities say a man died trying to elude Phoenix police in a traffic stop on Tuesday night.
Officers pulled over a car in the area of 4500 E. McDowell Road just before 10 p.m. Tuesday and discovered both drivers had warrants out for their arrest, according to Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson.
The passenger, 26-year-old Jeffery Ruiz, pushed the driver out of the vehicle and got behind the wheel. He sped off, lost control and rolled the Cadillac near 58th Street and McDowell. He was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
