NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -
A very slick situation on the shoreline Thursday morning after police said someone drained pool water onto a road in Norwalk.
With temperatures in the teens, that water quickly turned to ice, which caused several cars to lose control and crash into each other.
Police said a 2008 Subaru Legacy spun out around 9 a.m. A short time later, a 2005 Jeep Liberty spun out and slammed into a 2008 Subaru Forester that caused the Liberty to spin out again.
No one was seriously injured in the first two crashes, according to police.
However, a 2012 Nissan Rogue crashed into the Liberty and then slammed into a Department of Public Works plow truck.
The driver of the Rouge was taken to Norwalk Hospital with minor injuries. Police said she has since been released from the hospital.
Police discovered a pool company worker, who was doing work at a nearby home, was responsible for turning the street into a skating rink.
"During this 'service,' the employee had drained water from the in-ground pool located on Westview Lane with a hose, and ran that hose to the edge of Flax Hill Avenue, discharging the water into the roadway, just uphill from the "S" turn and the scene of the collisions," police said in a release Thursday.
The water from the pool traveled about 1/10 of a mile down Flax Hill Road, "which caused the extreme ice buildup on the road surface."
Police called the pool company and the employee responsible for the incident, 34-year-old Alfredo Bahena-Benitez, came back to the scene.
Bahena-Benitez admitted to the crime and was arrested. He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.
Bahena-Benitez is being held on $1,000 and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Jan. 21.
