HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Hartford police have identified the victim of Wednesday night's homicide, the first in the city in 2014.

Police said they were called to the area of 81 Sumner St. around 10 p.m. after getting word of shots being fired in the area.

When they arrived at the scene, they said they found a man, later identified as Mark McNickle, 33, of Hartford, in the rear parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

He was brought to St. Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Eyewitnesses told police they did see a car fleeing the scene after hearing the gunshots, but so far police do not have any suspects.

Hartford Police major crimes detectives are investigating the killing.
