WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (WFSB) -

A 16-year-old female was returned to her family after police said she was "exploited for purposes of prostitution."

The Windsor Locks Police Department along with the FBI Task Force for Missing and Exploited Children are gathering evidence on a "multi-jurisdictional prostitution ring involving underage children" during December 2013.

Police said the ring was operating in Windsor Locks as well as other locations. Investigators located a 16-year-old female at the Motel 6 in Windsor Locks.

Five days after the teenager was found, police took her from the motel, gave her medical care and returned her to her parents, who live outside of Connecticut.

Police said they are still investigating the prostitution ring. Anyone with any knowledge about this prostitution ring or any others is asked call the Windsor Locks Police Department at 860-627-1461.

"Please notify this department and assist us in our efforts to locate these children and return them safely to their families," police said in a statement Thursday.
