Rayovac flashlight recalled for burn hazard

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON (WFSB) -

Spectrum Brands is recalling nearly 225,000 Rayovac flashlights because the batteries could overheat posing a burn hazard to the user.

The recall involves Rayovac LED Industrial 25 and 50 hour flashlights and Rayovac Value Bright LED and standard flashlights.

Officials said the batteries can overheat, melting the flashlights plastic casing and burning the user.  Twelve instances of this have been reported, but so far no one has been injured.

The flashlights were sold in red, blue, green and black with yellow at grocery, drug, hardware and auto part stores across the country between February of  2012, and December of 2013 for about $2.30.

Anyone who owns one of the flashlights should contact Spectrum Brands at 855-752-6660 or on their website here for information regarding a refund.
