One person has died and another is in critical condition after their car collided with another in northwest Phoenix, police said.
Sgt. Trent Crump said the driver of a Nissan Altima failed to stop for a red light around 9:45 p.m. Saturday while going east on Cactus Road at 43rd Avenue.
Crump said the Nissan crashed into a Kia Optima, which was following a green traffic signal.
Police said the driver and the female passenger in the Nissan were taken to area hospitals.
The passenger was declared dead and the driver suffered life-threatening injuries, officers said. Neither was wearing a seatbelt and no airbags deployed.
The driver of the Kia was treated and released with minor injuries.
