HARTFORD, CT (AP) -

A winter storm packing snow, sleet and freezing rain has prompted school closings, dozens of flight cancellations and Metro-North rail service reductions in Connecticut.

The National Weather Service expects Wednesday's storm to dump 6 to 10 inches of snow and sleet in northwestern Connecticut, 5 to 9 inches in the Hartford area and 1 to 3 inches along the shoreline. The Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 6 p.m.

State officials delayed the start of the legislature's annual session from Wednesday to Thursday and ordered a delayed opening for state offices to 10 a.m. for nonessential state workers.

Bradley International Airport north of Hartford is reporting more than three dozen cancelled flights.

Metro-North has cancelled and combined some trains on the New Haven Line.
