MANCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle in Manchester Thursday evening.

The crash was reported on Route 83, which is also known as Oakland Street, around 7 p.m.

The 53 year old man was taken to Hartford Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries, his name is not being released pending notification of his family.

Route 83 was closed between Sheldon and Rachael roads while police investigated the crash.

According to police a Subaru was traveling south on Oakland Street when it struck a pedestrian who was pushing a shopping cart along the shoulder of the road.

Manchester Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but it does not appear that speed or driver impairment were factors in the accident.

Officials are now looking into if unshoveled sidewalks played a factor in the man's death.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Manchester Police Officer Jason Moss at 860-645-5560.
