A grandmother in Vernon received quite the surprise when she came home Monday morning to find a stranger inside her home.
Police said the woman called police just after 10 a.m. Monday after she had returned home to find a man inside her house burglarizing it.
The victim confronted the man, police said, and that is when he fled on foot.
"I said to him, 'what are you doing?' He looked at me and I said 'get out of here.'"
The victim spoke to Eyewitness News, but only identified herself as Judy.
"I was so surprised, I know I wasn't afraid," she said. "I suppose I should have run or hid or something, but I just didn't do it."
An officer who was nearby immediately responded to the area and located the suspect just down the road.
The suspect has been identified by police as 32-year-old Luis Arnaldo Galan. Police said Galan had escaped from a halfway home in December 2013.
According to police, Galan was living in an area homeless shelter trying to avoid capture.
Galan was arrested and is facing several charges including escape, burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Galan was attempting to steal the victim's computer when she returned home. He is being held in the custody of the Department of Corrections and will face a judge on Tuesday.
