CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

An officer with Richmond Police is among several people injured during a crash on the Powhite Parkway.

Police tell us a woman lost control of her car after hitting an ice patch and smashed into a concrete barrier. This happened just before 10:49 p.m. Saturday on the northbound side Powhite Parkway, near the Forest Hill exit.

Huge chunks of debris landed in the southbound lanes hitting a police cruiser. We're told the officer, the woman and three children were taken to nearby hospitals.

The officer has been treated and released. One of the children was transported to VCU Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
