PD: ATVs not allowed on city streets in New Britain

Posted: Updated:

With all the snow we've had, many riders haven taken out their all-terrain vehicles including in places such as New Britain.

The New Britain Police Department received a number of complaints of people riding ATVs in downtown New Britain during Winter Storm Easton.

However, it is illegal to ride an ATV on city streets.

Now, police are asking for the public's help locating those suspects.

Jay Cofiell, who owns Cofiell's Sport & Power Equipment in Glastonbury, said ATV riders like to go out in the snow, but most know where they can and cannot ride.

"With the ATVs, the only legal place to ride them in Connecticut is on somebody's land with owner's permission to be on there," Cofiell said.

Police said it's dangerous for ATVs to be on public roads for the rider and other drivers.

Anyone with any information about the ATV riders is asked to call the New Britain Police Department at 860-826-3000.
