Madison PD arrest two after police chase

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Madison Police arrest two people after a high speed chase that started in Madison and ended in Jackson.

The chase ended in an accident on Gallatin Street and Oakdale. The vehicle the suspects were driving hit another truck that then slammed into a building.

Madison Police say it all started after a string of auto burglaries Saturday.

During the investigation, they learned the suspects, whose names haven't been released, stole credit cards and used them at various businesses including Target in Ridgeland.

Sunday, investigators received a call from Target saying the suspects were back wearing similar clothing and driving the same vehicle used in the burglaries on Saturday.

When officers arrived the suspects took off. Officers tried to pull them over on Interstate 55 at the High Street exit in Jackson.

They were eventually arrested during the accident on Gallatin Street.

"They came under the viaduct and hit another vehicle and drove that vehicle through the fence and into the wall," said Tommy Hedglin, the owner of the business that was damaged.

The damage done to the building is estimated at around $30,000.

Sammy Sebren owns Roadhouse bar across the street from the accident scene and he says it was crazy.

"I heard them either say either stand down or lay down. But anyhow about that time another Madison police come up from the other way here and the next thing I knew they came down the hill and had both of them in handcuffs," said Sebren. "I'm just glad law enforcement did what they had to do."

Both suspects were treated for minor injuries from the accident.

The driver of the truck who was not related to the chase was transported to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.

Both suspects will likely face serious charges.
