HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A prayer vigil was held Monday night for Heather Elvis, the same day that Sidney and Tammy Moorer were charged and accused of murdering the 20-year-old woman who has been missing since mid-December.
About 300 people, including the Elvis family, were at the vigil, and while the family and supporters are one step closer to the answer they need, they still want to know: where is Heather?
Organizers said they were not expecting the Elvis family to come, because this has been a very tough day for them.
"The offer to them is to come, but I also said I would not expect them to show because emotions are running so high at this point," said Elvis family friend Matt Stoddard.
Terry and Debbi Elvis family did attend, and still showed signs of hope tonight as they were hugged by friends and supporters moments after getting out of their car. The Stoddards are close family friends of the Elvis' and are hoping people keep their heads high and continue to help in the search for Heather, despite the charges filed this morning.
"A lot of people are going to start to kinda lose hope a little bit - the feelings are really, really at a high right now, a lot of sadness and a lot of worry," Matt Stoddard said. "We're trying to make sure everyone stays positive because yes, there are charges of murder, but no we don't have Heather yet; we don't know where Heather is. We don't have the final clue and until that happens, we're going to continue business as usual until she's brought home."
Although the charges against the Moorers are for murder, supporters are still very hopeful and, Matt Stoddard said the tip tents will still be up this weekend for any information that leads to finding Heather.
