PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix police had two people in custody and were searching several neighborhoods for a third after an officer-involved shooting at a gun store early Monday morning.

The shooting happened during a robbery at Legendary Guns of the West Inc. near 19th Avenue just north of Camelback Road, Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said.

Phoenix police said this isn't the first time someone has tried to break into this gun store. In the summer of 2012, the same store was robbed and the people broke into the business in the same manner - by cutting a hole through the sheetrock and making their way inside.

One suspect and one "person of interest" were in police custody and officers were looking for a third person, Crump said.

"There may have been a third individual who aided them and was here possible as a getaway driver," Crump said.

The store's alarm was tripped about 4 a.m., and officers found a hole cut in a front door to an adjacent vacant business in the strip mall. The suspects used the hole to crawl into the gun store, Crump said.

Officers positioned themselves at the front of the business and in the alley to the rear of the business, where one of the suspects was seen crawling back into the vacant business. He went back into the gun store when police identified themselves, Crump said.

Shortly after, one suspect with a gun began to run, climbed a fence and fired at least one shot at police, hitting a mobile home but not injuring anyone, Crump said.

The suspect then turned and pointed the handgun at a pursuing officer, Crump said. The officer fired and the suspect hit the ground, though he was not struck by the officer's round, Crump said.

Police recovered a handgun at the scene, Crump said.

A second suspect was caught by police near the business and burglary tools, gloves, masks and drills were recovered, Crump said. The third suspect is still on the loose, Crump said.

No officers were injured, he said.

Police had blocked off 19th Avenue between Missouri Avenue and Camelback Road and had closed several neighborhood streets while they searched for the additional suspects inside Legendary Guns Inc., and in the immediate area.

The closures impacted the morning rush-hour commute for motorists and for light rail riders, according to Valley Metro.

The light rail was not allowed to travel farther north than Camelback Road until the rail was reopened about 7:45 a.m., Valley Metro tweeted.

The shooting was the 11th officer-involved shooting of 2014 in the Valley. Another shooting happened near the Valley in San Carlos on Jan. 13.

No other information was immediately available.
