DISH first to sign SEC Network

Posted: Updated:

DISH is the first nationwide television provider to sign a deal with ESPN to carry the SEC Network.

Southeastern Conference officials announced the long-term distribution agreement Tuesday. It was part of a larger deal that includes networks provided by the ESPN's parent company, Walt Disney Company, including ESPN, ABC, ABC Family and the Disney Channel. Financial terms were not released.

The network launches August 14, 2014. Dish subscribers on the America's Top 120+ and higher packages will have access to the SEC Network and its digital platforms, which allows customers to watch programming anytime, anywhere on their televisions, computers, tablets or mobile devices.

Subscribers can see more than 1,000 live SEC events in the first year, including a minimum of 45 football games, 160 men's and women's basketball games, 75 baseball games and other sports.

"This agreement provides DISH customers nationwide with access to every SEC college football game this fall," said Justin Connolly, ESPN senior vice president, college networks.

The SEC and ESPN signed a 20-year agreement to create and operate a multiplatform network to carry conference athletics events.  The deal runs through 2034.
