A father rushing his infant son to the hospital Thursday night was the victim of road rage when another driver smashed his back window with a bottle.

Timothy Barlow and his girlfriend were rushing their son, Gunter, to the hospital when they passed a slow-moving vehicle on New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro.

"No sooner as I got into my lane, he was right on my bumper, and I tapped my brake a couple of times," Barlow said.

The other driver continued to tailgate, and after a few miles, it happened.

"All I heard was this large bang, and my girlfriend start screaming and my son start screaming, and I saw him bolted onto the interstate," Barlow said.

A cologne bottle was apparently thrown into the back window, sending shattered glass inside the vehicle.

"The window got busted out right in front of his face, and cut his face up. And glass was all over him and all over my truck," Barlow said.

Barlow followed the other driver, got the license plate number and then called police.

Detectives were able to use that license plate number to contact the other driver who denies throwing that cologne bottle, saying he got off work and went straight home.

Barlow says the cologne bottle sure wasn't his.

"I can't afford a $90 bottle of cologne to spray on myself just to smell good. That's what soap is for," Barlow said.

Police are investigating the incident.

"There is not room on the road for vigilante justice. Someone could get hurt," said Murfreesboro police spokesperson Officer Amy Norville.

The father had the windows of his truck tinted last week, and, for that, he's grateful.

"If it wasn't for that window tint, the bottle would have come through and hit him in the face. He probably would be in surgery today," Barlow said.
