Amtrak passengers stuck on train for more than 3 hours

Posted: Updated:

More than 200 passengers were stranded on an Amtrak train for hours after it broke down near Greenwich.

Amtrak train 173, which operates between Boston and Washington, broke down due to "mechanical problems" just after 2:30 p.m.

Crews tried to transfer the 252 passengers on board to another train, however that was "unsuccessful" because that train broke down as well.

"A rescue engine has connected to Train 173 and is towing it to Stamford where passengers will transfer to Train 175 to continue their journey south," Amtrak officials said.

Passengers told Eyewitness News, they were on the Amtrak train 173 for about three and a half hours before they reached a station.
