Police were investigating the sudden death of a toddler in Putnam Wednesday.
They said they were called shortly after noon about a child in distress.
The 2-year-old was transported to Day Kimball Hospital where the child was pronounced dead.
The state's medical examiner will be conducting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause.
The State Police Major Crimes Squad was called to investigate the circumstances of the death.
Detectives said they spent the day processing the scene and collecting statements from eyewitnesses. Evidence was also secured.
The name of the child was not being released until the family was notified, police said.
