RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A stabbing suspect barricaded himself inside a Gilpin Court residence leading to a standoff Saturday, according to police.

Police found a woman stabbed at a home in the 400 block of West Charity Street around 7:15 p.m. Saturday while responding to a domestic assault call. She was taken to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Officers believed the man responsible was barricaded inside a residence and after several attempts to make contact with the suspect, the SWAT team made entry. Police say the suspect had self-inflicted wounds and was taken to VCU Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Several roads in and around the housing complex were closed to accommodate the investigation, but have since reopened.
