Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A woman from Windsor Locks was struck by a car and killed early Sunday morning on Route 9 in Middletown.

At approximately 1:01 a.m., Carol Canzellarini, 49, of Rocky Hill was driving northbound on Route 9 just north of the Exit 11 on-ramp. Erica Law, 23, or Windsor Locks had just gotten out of her vehicle, which was parked on the right shoulder.

Law's boyfriend, Manuel Rivera, 28, of Hartford was in the passenger's seat of Law's vehicle when the accident took place.

Law entered the travel portion of the right lane on Route 9 and was struck by Canzellarini's vehicle. Canzellarini continued a short distance further and stopped in the right shoulder, according to state police.

Law sustained serious injuries and was transported to Middlesex Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Canzellarini has minor injuries and was brought to Middlesex Hospital where she was treated and released.

The State Police C.A.R.S responded to the scene. The investigation is still ongoing.
