Toledo Police put new sky camera on Douglas Road

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Police Department is making another move in the efforts to keep crime down in the city. Crews are setting up a new sky camera at Douglas and Kendale.

Several tenants live near the intersection and get frequent visitors. Toledo Police say many of the visitors are causing serious trouble. City councilman Tom Waniewski says the district he represents needed a camera specifically in this area. His goal is to crack down on the crime and put those responsible behind bars.

"I'm just looking forward to putting these folks behind bars, you know, if the cameras can give the police great evidence for which to arrest these thugs then that's what my sole intent is," said Waniewski.

When these cameras first came on the scene a little over a year ago there was controversy. Some people said they felt like it was big brother watching over, but police say they are effective in reducing crime.
