TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

One councilman has concerns when it comes to traffic signals at intersections in his district, but his proposal could lead to a big fight in the city of Toledo.

The traffic signal at Sylvania and Bowen is one of four proposed intersections that could lose its traffic lights, but Councilman Tom Waniewski says this light isn't going anywhere without a fight.

Waniewski informed his District 5 residents of the proposed intersection changes via his April newsletter. The city's commissioner of transportation has proposed the removal of traffic signals, replacing them with stop signs on the side streets at four intersections in the district. Those intersections are Alexis and Gay; Bellevue and Sylvania; Bowen and Sylvania; and Central and West Lincolnshire.

Waniewski feels the removal of the two signals on Sylvania would be unsafe, turning the stretch by Deveaux Elementary School "into a drag strip."

A 90-day public comment period started on Monday and the councilman says he will not let the lights at Bowen and Sylvania be removed without a fight.
