Police say they've arrested four Glendale men in a string of increasingly violent robberies over the past month in Phoenix and Glendale.
Glendale police detectives found the Chrysler PT Cruiser believed to be associated with the crimes and began surveillance in the area. Detectives gathered probable cause to issue a search warrant for two apartments in the 6600 block of W. Myrtle Ave. in Glendale on April 15.
Police arrested Ruben Torres, 36, his son Ruben Gutierrez-Torres, 17, and his friend Anthony Zamarrron, 17, Glendale police said.
Officer Tracey Breeden said the case was cracked with the help of a tipster.
"Tips are extremely important for us. We wouldn't be able to solve many of our crimes without the help of our citizens," she continued.
The Maricopa County Attorney's office said the two teens will be charged as adults. The last suspect arrested is a younger teenage nephew of Ruben Torres and at this point it does not appear he will be charged as an adult.
Glendale police said the men have been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and aggravated assault in five cases in Glendale and four cases in Phoenix.
Police believe the suspects carried out three of the violent armed robberies over a three-hour period in west Phoenix.
A 21-year-old man suffered several stab wounds during one of the robberies and was found by a passerby on a neighborhood sidewalk in the area of 63rd Avenue and Mountain View Road, said Officer Tracey Breeden of the Glendale Police Department.
About 30 minutes later, a man walking down the street in the area of 8900 W. Pierson was robbed at knifepoint of his personal belongings, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.
A short time later, two boys were robbed at knifepoint in the area of 3700 West Almeria. The suspects stole the victims' personal belongings, and one of the victims was stabbed.
People who live near the alley, where that hold up and stabbing took place, are rattled.
"That shows some malicious intent," said Paul Postma. "And, not just for this particular neighborhood. They were on some - they had some kind of mad purpose behind them, and that is disturbing."
A fourth robbery happened at around 1:15 p.m. at 3300 West Rose Lane. A passenger stepped off a city bus and was robbed at knifepoint.
