A Mesa man is facing felony charges after attempting to kill his son-in-law in front of the victim's Chandler home on Saturday, police said.
Police said George Brown, 66, got in a verbal fight with his son-in-law, Heston Carr, and then punched Carr in the face three times, shot him in the stomach with a flare gun, and attempted to stab him with a folding knife several times.
Witnesses reported hearing Brown say he was going to shoot Carr and "wanted him to burn to death," according to the police report.
Brown told police he saw Carr on the ground and came after him with a knife, stating "I was fixing to kill him," according to the police report.
Carr said he thought he was going to die in the attack.
Brown was arrested on one count of second-degree attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault and disorderly conduct.
