PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

Former NFL star Darren Sharper will not be allowed out on bond when he faces sexual assault charges in Arizona.

A judge ruled there is enough evidence on one of the two counts 38-year-old Sharper faces in Arizona to keep him in jail.

The former NFL All-Pro safety is currently being held in Los Angeles on similar charges.

His attorneys were hoping Thursday's ruling would help him get bond in California.

Tempe police said Sharper's DNA was found in an examination of one of two women who accuse him of drugging and sexually assaulting them last year at a Tempe apartment.

Tempe police Detective Kevin Mace said at a hearing in Phoenix on Wednesday that Sharper's DNA was recovered from one of the women's clothing, but none of his DNA was found during an exam of the other victim.

Mace's testimony came at the hearing in which Sharper's lawyers were challenging the evidence used to keep him in an Arizona jail without bail.

Sharper hasn't yet entered a plea in the Arizona case, but his lawyers say he would deny the allegations.

Sharper visited Arizona to meet a friend on Nov. 20, 2013. After going out for the night with her and some of her friends, they returned to the victim's apartment at 323 E. Veterans Way, Tempe police said. While at the apartment, Sharper allegedly mixed some drinks for the women and served them.

After having the drink, the women passed out and Sharper allegedly sexually assaulted two of the women.

A police report obtained by CBS 5 News revealed a third woman locked herself in her bedroom the night Sharper allegedly drugged and raped two of her roommates.

The women say when they confronted Sharper, he said he "didn't remember anything."

One alleged victim told investigators she thought Sharper was "acting."

Sharper is also charged in Los Angeles with drugging and raping two women.

Tempe police had detectives in the Los Angeles courtroom while Sharper was arraigned on two counts of rape by use of drugs, four counts of furnishing a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

The complaint out of California alleges the controlled substances were morphine and zolpidem, which is sold under the brand name Ambien.

Prosecutors said he met two women at a West Hollywood nightclub on Oct. 30, invited them to a party and stopped at his hotel room.

He is accused of giving a shot of alcohol to each of the women before they passed out. One woman told investigators she woke up naked hours later with Sharper sexually assaulting her. The other woman awoke and "interrupted his actions," according to the criminal complaint.

On Jan. 14, Sharper met two other women at the same nightclub and invited them to a party. On the way, he invited both to his room and offered them shots before they passed out, prosecutors said.

When they woke up early the next day, one woman believed she had been sexually assaulted, the complaint said. Both women left his hotel and sought medical treatment.

Sharper was arrested on Jan. 17 and released on $200,000 bail. Prosecutors wanted his bail raised to $10 million because the Miami resident is facing similar investigations in Nevada and Louisiana, in addition to Arizona and California.
