Two Texas travelers who are insulin dependent were rescued Tuesday after their vehicle got stuck in deep sand a day earlier on a remote dirt road in western Yavapai County.
Yavapai County sheriff's deputies were notified Monday and a search was launched based off a ping from the couple's cell phone, investigators said. The pair could not be located.
Deputies returned to the area Tuesday morning with a rescue helicopter and discovered the travelers about 12 miles west of Highway 93, south of the Santa Maria River.
After checking the couple's physical condition, deputies escorted them back to blacktop and the pair, ages 70 and 62, headed on to Kingman.
