SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man charged with the St. Patrick's Day double shooting in Savannah appeared in Recorder's Court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.

James Harris, Jr., 28, is charged with murder and aggravated assault in the shooting on Mississippi Avenue that left one man dead and another wounded.

Harris was denied bond in a court appearance in March after he was extradited to Chatham County. He was arrested in Beaufort County.

Lt. Jonathon Puhalla testified Thursday that the two victims had just returned from Kennedy's fried chicken when neighbors heard shots ring out and found Barry Williams laying face down with a bullet wound to the head and Dominic Ellison wounded. Investigators say they were able to connect Harris to the crime after finding his cell phone near the scene in an empty lot nearby.

"He said him and Williams had just got back from Kennedy's Fried Chicken and all of a sudden the shooter came out of nowhere and started firing. He said he said he was shot. All of his shots were in the back. Eventually he made his way into 2024 Mississippi," Puhalla.

His case was then sent to Superior Court.
