TPD graduates 68 new officers

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

One of the largest Toledo Police classes in years graduated Thursday evening.

Sixty eight men and women graduated from the academy. That is the largest Toledo Police class since 1983.

Mayor D. Michael Collins says having these extra officers will allow the police department to expand and work assigned areas, where they'll get to know you and anybody who might cause trouble.

"It's going to expand and make us capable of going into beat integrity, which I believe is the solid foundation of policing in the urban setting. This is a very joyous moment, and I'm looking forward to watching their careers progress," said Collins.

The mayor says these graduates have demonstrated they have the ability to learn, but the real experience begins as they hit the streets for training with current officers. For months of training on the streets starts next week.
