BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Bristol police have arrested a city man who mugged and attempted to steal a purse from a woman on Thursday night.

Police said the woman was walking along Gridley Street shortly before 11 p.m. when the man approached her, knocked her to the ground and attempted to grab her handbag away.

The woman was able to hang on to her bag while screaming for help, which caused the suspect to flee. Her husband, who was walking to meet her, was able to come to her aid and observed the suspect fleeing on foot.

Police were able to locate the suspect just a short time later at the intersection of Gridley and West streets. He has been identified as 29-year-old Richard Labouliere.

Labouliere is facing several charges including criminal attempted robbery, assault and breach of peace. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in Bristol Superior Court on Monday.
