OLD SAYBROOK, CT (WFSB) -
Police are investigating a serious stabbing that happened at a motel in Old Saybrook Friday morning.
Officers were called to Super 8 Motel, which is about two blocks away from police headquarters, just after 6:30 a.m.
A 23-year-old female victim was stabbed by a man, who was identified as Deep River resident Andrew T. Craig Jr., inside a second floor room of the hotel on Spencer Plain Road, police said.
The victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She remains in "extremely critical condition," police said.
"We believe this to be an isolated incident, a domestic incident and we feel that no one else is in danger," said Old Saybrook Police Lt. Kevin Roche.
Police seized 178 bags of heroin and more than $2,600.
Craig, 25, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, criminal attempt to commit murder, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana.
He is being held on $1 million bond and is expected to be arraigned at Middlesex Superior Court on Monday.
Motel staff said the female checked in a couple of weeks ago, but did not have any other details.
The state's attorney's office is also investigating.
