Teams have ten opportunities to compete for a portion of more than $10,000

NASHVILLE, Tenn., May 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It's no secret, the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) is made up of some of the best competitive barbeque cooks in the country, and the BBQ Guru wants to reward them! For the first time ever, the BBQ Guru, inventors of the temperature control system, and KCBS are teaming up to present the BBQ Guru Challenge, giving teams at ten select KCBS events the bonus opportunity to cash in their expertly cooked barbeque for additional prize money. The challenge kicked off on May 3 at the Naptown barBayQ Contest and Music Festival in Annapolis, Md. and will conclude at the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue on Oct. 24.

In 2014, the BBQ Guru Challenge is rewarding bonus prize money to the teams that place high in a contest while using select BBQ Guru products, no extra recipe nor secret sauces required. The first and second place winners of each BBQ Guru Challenge event will take home $750 and $300, respectively, not to mention, bragging rights to last for weeks.

"This challenge is unique because we're not requiring teams to submit another protein or whip up a fifth category dish, as many other bonus contests do," said Bob Trudnak, director of sales and marketing at the BBQ Guru. "The BBQ Guru Challenge is a great way for teams to showcase their mastery of cooking technique, as it requires the use of a high-quality appliance and/or tool, and get rewarded for doing so."

To be eligible, teams competing in the BBQ Guru Challenge must cook with either the Onyx Oven and/or the Control System.
