Lincoln County's former football coach, Larry Campbell, was charged with simple battery after a fight at Tuesday night's board of education meeting, according to the Lincolnton Police Department.
Officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to a reported fight at the Lincoln County Board of Education office at 423 Metasville Rd., police said. Officers took statements from several witnesses.
Superintendent Brian Campbell says one person who attended the meeting made some disparaging remarks towards him after a decision was not passed, which is when Larry Campbell stood up to confront the individual.
A warrant was issued for Campbell's arrest. He was booked into the Lincoln County Jail Wednesday morning and later released on a $5,000 bond.
Superintendent Campbell says the school community is trying to move on from this incident.
"We're better than this. Our school system is better than what happened and we're moving on and our focus is on what's best for kids. The problems that happened last night are adult problems and what we're focusing on are the kids and that's where we're headed from this point on," he says.
The investigation is ongoing and we will update you as we learn more.
