AVONDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

A former Valley high school English teacher accused of taking videos of himself fondling underage students who were naked and passed out at his home pleaded not guilty Monday morning.

Werner Girard, 37, entered his plea in Maricopa County Superior Court and is scheduled to next appear in court Aug. 7.

Police said the 37-year-old Werner Girard had videos of two girls, ages 15 and 16 years old at the time, who were both students of his.

The girls said they had been drinking alcohol at Girard's house in Avondale and passed out. Girard took videos of the girls undressed on his cell phone on March 22, March 25 and April 15, the police report states.

Police said he showed the videos to at least two 18-year-old boys who know the girls.

The incidents were reported May 26.

He's facing 12 felony charges, including sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Girard was hired at Peoria High School in 2007 and had a background check at the time, school officials said.

On May 22, he resigned for "personal reasons" according to school officials and the school was not aware of the allegations against him until June 5.
