TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A little boy may have spent days alone in his Tempe apartment after his mother died.

Tempe police have identified the woman as 33-year-old Breanna Malinasky.

A friend had been trying to reach Malinasky over the weekend with no success, so he decided to do a welfare check at her Southern Avenue home and that's when he found the sliding glass door open and her 4-year-old son came out.

The man thought his friend was sleeping when he found lying in her bed but quickly learned she had died.

Police were called to the apartment and according to police, she had been dead for several days.

The 4-year-old boy, believed to be autistic, was unharmed. He is now with family.

At this time, police don't believe there was any foul play involved. The cause is unknown.
