HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Connecticut has been ranked the fifth worst state to make a living, according to a recent study.

Moneyrates.com ranked all 50 states based on their working conditions. The following factors were used to determine each state's ranking: 

  • Average salary, according to figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
  • Cost of living, based on data from C2ER.
  • Employment rate, based on BLS data.
  • Workplace conditions, based on the "Work Environment" component of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.

Connecticut was ranked number 46th only above Rhode Island, Mississippi, New York and Hawaii.

Washington was ranked the best state to make a living followed by Texas, Minnesota, Colorado and Utah.
