Head of Internal Affairs for CBP reassigned

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

U.S. Customs and Border Protection have removed a top official from his position, over criticism he was not doing his job properly.

James Tomscheck, who had been head of Border Patrol Internal Affairs since 2006, has now been reassigned to another job at CBP. The allegations were that Tomscheck did not assign enough investigators to deal with hundreds of allegations of abuse by BP agents.

Records released in May showed that barely two percent of abuse complaints to Internal Affairs led to disciplinary action against agents.

Officials say an FBI agent will be assigned to replace Tomscheck with orders to be more aggressive when investigating abuse cases.
