PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Phoenix firefighters arriving at the scene of an alley fire on Tuesday afternoon found it had spread to three structures.

Three roommates fled to safety as fire crews aggressively battled the blaze near Third Avenue and Roma.

Fire spread up several oleanders and jumped to the structures.

The main house had a shingle wood roof which fed the fire, according to Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra.

"Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the fire and their quick actions prevented the fire from completely destroying the neighboring house," Saavedra said in a statement.

Phoenix Fire Crisis response teams helped provide aid to the displaced residents.

Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
