TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
The search for two armed and dangerous men is heating up as carryout robberies in Toledo continue and get more violent. The pair responsible may also be linked to around a dozen other robberies in the area. People who live in the area say they are scared. They don't know who these guys are, when they will strike again, or how violent they're willing to get.
"It's bad. It's getting real bad," said a carryout customer.
People are on edge in south Toledo as the two armed and dangerous men remain on the loose.
"It's really scary and we need to get them off the street before somebody gets hurt bad," said a carryout clerk.
Police say two men walked into a Stop and Go around 11:30 Tuesday night with masks and guns drawn. It's similar to the previous robberies the area but this time they exchanged shots with the armed clerk and ran.
"Somebody got a job and they're trying to feed their family and you're going to come in here and shoot them? That's crazy," said a customer.
The customer did not want to be identified but says he went to the Stop and Go Tuesday night and walked in seconds after the robbers took off.
"Our kids can't go to the stores no more. Nobody feels safe," said the customer.
The patron says his friends and family are so scared they're at the point where they don't even go to carryouts after dark anymore. It's a fear shared by clerks.
"Every time somebody comes in after dark you wonder who it is," said a clerk.
The clerk says more of her coworkers have started bringing their guns to work. The Midwest Retailers Association is also fighting back. They're now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
