Graduation day for one East Windsor High School graduate was extra special after her brother, who is in the military, was able to share it with her.
"He completely surprised me. I had no idea," said graduate Margaret Karwowski.
Pfc. Marine Robert Bayer, who is stationed in North Carolina, was front and center during the East Windsor High School graduation on Wednesday evening.
"He kept on telling me all month he wasn't able to make it, and then this all happened," Karwowski said, adding that she hasn't seen her brother since New Year's Eve.
"It's the last time I'm going to see her for a while," Bayer said, adding that he will be deployed later this year and isn't sure where he is going, but was enjoying his family reunion.
"I'm so proud of both of my kids," said their mother Ingrid Brand.
Bayer was also able to leave his sister on graduation night with some advice.
"She graduated. She has the tools. Now she's got to go make her own path," Bayer said to his sister. "I was given the tools. Here I said to myself I want to be a Marine, so I became a Marine."
