Looking for a way to celebrate the Fourth of July? Here's a list of events in Augusta and the surrounding area. 

Fort Gordon Independence Day Celebration

What: Fort Gordon's annual Independence Day celebration will feature fireworks, a band concert and a carnival. The carnival opens at 3 p.m. with military displays, craft and food vendors, live entertainment and water and carnival rides. The Team 15 Talent Show will be at 5 p.m., followed by a live concert from "The Swingin' Medallions" at 7 p.m. and the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band performance at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at dark.

Columbia County Fourth of July Celebration

What: Xfinity presents the Columbia County Fourth of July Celebration with fireworks display at dark, live music, carnival rides, water rides, food, drinks and games.

When: 2 p.m. until dark on Friday, July 4

Where: Evans Towne Center Park

Price: FREE

American Stories in Song

What: Augusta Bel Canto, Augusta's newest choral ensemble will perform "American Stories in Song."

When: 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4

Where: Augusta Museum of History, 560 Reynolds St. 

Price: FREE

First Friday

What: Enjoy live music and shop from local vendors along Broad Street and in the Augusta Common. Discover local restaurants, galleries, retail stores and nightlife. Many downtown businesses have First Friday specials.

When: 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 4

Where: Augusta Common and Broad Street

Star-Spangled Fourth 

What: The Riverwalk Series, Inc. will present the 18th annual "Star Spangled Fourth" featuring the 100 member Independence Day Chorus & Orchestra with special guest star, Russell Joel Brown. The concert will be followed by the Afterglow Party and the city of Augusta's Riverwalk fireworks display. 

When: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4

Where: St. Paul's Church, 605 Reynolds St. 

Price: $20 for the concert; $15 for the Afterglow Party

Signers Monument Ceremony

What: A ceremony honoring singers of the Declaration of Independence who lived in Georgia will be held in front of the Signers Monument. The Savannah River Brassworks will provide music, and Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell will speak about George Walton, one of the signers. Rep. John Barrow and Rep. Paul Broun will be at the event.

When: 9 a.m. on Friday July 4

Where: Signers Monument on Greene Street in front of the Augusta-Richmond County Government Center

Thurmond Lake Independence Day Celebration

What: The Sail and Power Squadron will be holding a boat parade, beach party, kayak adventure at Thurmond Lake. 

The boat parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Dorn facility. Participants will pass the judges around 10:30 a.m. and then make their way past the "Ice Cream Boat," where ice cream and goody bags will be tossed to all participants.

The beach party at Savannah Lakes Marina Beach starts at noon and lasts until 4 p.m. There will be free hot dogs and chips, adult activities, children's games and contests with prizes. Bring your own chairs or blanket and other food and beverages. Be there at noon to watch the boat parade arrive.
