WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A former junior varsity volleyball coach was charged with two counts of statutory rape this month after he allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl earlier this year.

Michael Rash, 24, of Westfield, made his second appearance in court for a pretrial hearing Thursday and had his case continued, according to our media partners at MassLive.

According to a police report, Rash's relationship with the teen took place between March and May 2014.

It began with texts, Snapchat messages and social media messages before it led to two late-night sexual encounters, the arrest report indicated.

Rash is scheduled appear in Westfield District Court again July 30.

Rash was charged with assault and battery of a pizza man back in 2007.
