MIDDLEBURY, CT (WFSB) -

A mansion in Middlebury caught on fire Thursday evening.

Multiple fire departments were on the scene battling the fire at 725 Breakneck Rd.

There is no word on how the blaze started or if there were any injuries.

Neighbors said it was a fire that burned for hours, and there were many challenges for firefighters.

There are no hydrants nearby the 12,000-square-foot home, which sits on some 30-plus acres. Tankers had to fill with water at a nearby pond.

There was also thunder and lightning while the fire was active, which was dangerous for the firefighters. At one point, they were told to remove ladders and wait, which only caused the flames to burn longer.

No injuries were reported during the fire, but it caused massive damage.

The owner is Lawrence Janesky who is a businessman who owns Business Basement Systems, and he bought the home back in 2007 for just over $1 million.
