A 75-year-old man died after his motorcycle ran off the road and overturned late Thursday, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.

Marlyn Whetstone of Salley was driving his Harley Davidson Ultra Classic motorcycle near 267 Clinton Church Road when he lost control around 11:30 p.m. and ran off the road, Carlton said.

Whetstone may have been trying to avoid something in the roadway when he ran off the right shoulder, Carlton said. Evidence shows that he was trying to get the motorcycle back onto the road when it overturned.

Whetstone died from multiple body trauma, Carlton said. Toxicology is pending.

The S.C. Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating.
