Tift's Johnson signs on for sister act

TIFTON, GA (WALB) - One of the best girls' basketball players in south Georgia is headed to the college level.

The next chapter in her career will be a sister act.

Tift County's Alexis Johnson signed with Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina Thursday afternoon.

There wasn't much she didn't do as a Lady Devil. She was a first-team all region selection in each of her four seasons and led Tift County to two region titles.

When she heads to Barton, she'll rejoin her older sister Laken, who played her last two seasons at Southern Union State.

Johnson says she's looking forward to more time on the court with her sister.

"It's very easy actually. We read each other, we know each other, we look for each other. And I love that," Johnson says. "We played two years together and that was it. So I'm looking forward to playing more years with her."

"For them to go over and play together again, I think that's just going to be very special," says Tift County head coach Julie Conner.

Johnson says her older sister has already given her a few pointers about the transition to the college game.

"It's at a faster pace. It's nothing like high school," she says. "She's told me a lot."

Conner doesn't believe Johnson will need much time to get used to the higher level of competition.

"She just barely touched on what she can do in high school,Connerer says.  "If she has somebody in college that works with her constantly, then the sky's the limit."

Barton College plays in NCAA's Division II. They are a part of the Conference Carolinas.
