Gilbert community feeds families with food drive

GILBERT, AZ (CBS5) -

The Gilbert community pulled together to help make Arizona a better place to live by collecting food for those in need. In one month, the Gilbert Feeding Families community food drive beat their goal of 73,000 meals collected. The community collected more than 114,000 meals for the United Food Bank. A board chair for the United Food Bank, Bill Warren, says he wants to spread the movement across Arizona.

"My reaction is why can't I get everyone to feel like Gilbert feels, that we want to end hunger? Not just in Gilbert, not just in the East Valley, but in the state of Arizona," Warren says.

The food drive has grown a hundredfold since it began four years ago.
