People will be able to experience the phenomenon known as the “supermoon” three times this summer.

The first “supermoon” will be visible July 12.

The scientific term for the phenomenon is Perigee Moon, it makes the moon appear larger and brighter. NASA reported that in June 2013, a full moon made headlines and news media called it a “supermoon” because it was 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than other full moons of 2013.

The supermoon will happen again Aug. 10 and Sept. 9. NASA experts said the one on Aug. 10 will likely be the brightest.

NASA Scientists stressed that sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a supermoon and a regular full moon because clouds and haze can mask a difference in brightness.
