Leesburg's Trojan Field upgrades underway

Posted: Updated:
LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Lee County's Trojan Field isn't much more than a construction zone right now.

Soon though, the stadium will be ready for the Trojans' 2014 season.

Lee County is installing FieldTurf this summer that will be ready for the season opener. They've also put in a new video scoreboard.

The Trojans will debut their new digs on national TV no less, when they take on Westover in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNU.

"And it's to start the season," adds Lee Co. head coach Dean Fabrizio. "It's going to be really, really exciting. Any one of those things in and of itself would be really exciting. But to have them all coming together as one, it's going to be one heck of a day in Leesburg."

The Trojans' practice routine has been a little offset this summer due to the changes. Fabrizio says it hasn't been an issue for the team.

In fact, he says seeing the work that's going on has motivated his team.

"To be able to see all the new things that are going on and the commitment that the school system and community is making to athletics, it's really, really exciting," he says.

The field and scoreboard are just the first phase of the upgrades in Leesburg. The school will also install a new competition track and a new fieldhouse.
