Tigers talk Marshall's absence at Media Days

HOOVER, AL (WALB) - Of all the topics discussed on Monday at SEC Media Days, the most discussed was about who wasn't there.

Auburn QB Nick Marshall was pulled from his Media Days appearance after being cited for marijuana possession Friday afternoon.

Head coach Gus Malzahn says representing your team in Hoover is a privilege the former Wilcox County star lost.

"We have high expectations for our players, but specifically for our quarterback being the face of our program," Malzahn says. "To this point, Nick has been a model teammate, a model citizen, and done everything we've asked. But he made a mistake, and he's going to have to pay a price for that mistake."

Malzahn says he hasn't decided if Marshall will face any additional punishment, or what that punishment might entail.

The Tigers say Marshall has addressed the team and is very remorseful.

"He said that he was going to take the punishment with open palms, as he should," says tight end CJ Uzomah, who replaced Marshall at Media Days. "We haven't lost any faith in him. He's still the leader of our team. He knows that."

Auburn jumps right into conference play, opening the 2014 season against Arkansas.

SEC Media Days continues Tuesday when Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M take the stage.
